- Upon seeing the hospital interns, Cleveland shouts "I don't want no scrubs!" This references a line from the chorus of "No Scrubs", a 1999 hit for the girl group TLC.
- Cleveland says he'll mention his invention to his man Benson at the Governor's office, a reference to the television show Benson, portrayed by Robert Guillaume, as the wise-cracking African-American butler to a Governor and his family.
